The Analytics screen brings every dashboard in nSpec into one place, giving admins, supervisors, and analysts a single home for tracking inspection progress, feedback, application usage, and more. This article explains what each dashboard shows, how to filter and sort the data, and how to export results for offline analysis.
Accessing Analytics
- Sign in to nSpec at inspect-app.nspec.app
- Open the sidebar (☰ menu)
- Click Analytics
You need the View Analytics permission to see the Analytics item in your sidebar. Each individual dashboard has its own permission gate, so even with general analytics access you may not see every tab. Analytics is also hidden when you're in offline mode — most dashboards run live queries against the server.
The Dashboards
nSpec has several dashboards, each focused on a different slice of activity. The exact tabs you see depend on your role.
| Dashboard | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Tracker | The Work Tracker view of all inspections across your tenant. Filter by office, status, project, inspector, and report type. Includes a heat map of weekly submissions and an Excel export. |
| Inspection History | Historical breakdown of inspections — when they were created, finished, distributed. Useful for trending and audits. |
| Feedback Analytics | Analysis of feedback collected on observations and reports — which ones got positive vs negative responses, common themes. |
| Observation LMM | Stats on AI-generated observation suggestions — how often they're accepted, edited, or rejected. Used to evaluate the SuperClear AI feature's performance. |
| Application Usage | Who is using nSpec, how often, and on which screens. Includes screen visit counts, modal usage, tab tracking, and per-user activity over time. |
| Customer Success | Customer-success-focused metrics — adoption, retention, key feature usage. Available to admins and customer success managers. |
The Tracker Dashboard in Detail
Tracker is the most-used analytics dashboard, so it's worth a deeper look. It's the team-wide view of every inspection across the tenant.
Columns
- Project — Project name
- Report # — Field report number
- Inspector — Who performed the inspection
- Inspection Date — When the inspection occurred
- Status — Current status (Open, In Progress, Submitted, etc.)
- Report Submittal Date — Target date for the report to be delivered
- Deferred Date — Date if the report was deferred
- Date Submitted — When the report was actually submitted
- Lag — Days between target and actual submission (negative = late)
- Report Type
- Office
Filters
- Date Range — Current Year, Current Month, Last 30 Days, Last 90 Days, or Custom
- Office — Multi-select to focus on one or more offices
- Status — Submitted vs Pending
- Project — Multi-select
- Inspector — Multi-select
- Parent Report Type — Filter by report type family
- Report Type — Filter by individual report type
- Search — Free-text search by project name, report type, or report number
Sort
Click any column header to sort. Tracker supports A-Z, Z-A (text columns) and Low-High, High-Low (numeric columns) for all 11 columns.
Exporting to Excel
- Apply any filters and sorting you want included in the export
- Click Export to Excel
- nSpec generates an XLSX file matching exactly what's currently visible
- The file downloads to your browser's downloads folder
Use this when you need to share data with people who don't have nSpec accounts, or when you want to do further analysis in a spreadsheet tool.
Application Usage Dashboard
The Application Usage dashboard tracks how your team uses nSpec. It's useful for admins who want to see adoption, identify under-used features, or audit specific user activity.
- Per-screen visit counts — How many times each screen has been opened
- Modal usage — Which modals are being opened most
- Tab tracking — Which inspection tabs users spend the most time on
- Per-user activity — A timeline of every action a specific user performed
- All Activity view — Combined feed of all user activity, capped at 50K records to prevent browser crashes
Date Range Filtering
Most dashboards have a date range filter at the top with these options:
- Current Year — January 1 to today of the current year
- Current Month — Day 1 of the current month to today
- Last 30 Days — Rolling 30-day window ending today
- Last 90 Days — Rolling 90-day window ending today
- Custom — Pick your own start and end dates
Date filters update the dashboard immediately. Custom ranges let you pick any past period — for example, you can run an audit on a single quarter by setting the custom dates accordingly.
Best Practices
- Start broad, filter down. Open a dashboard with no filters to get a baseline, then add filters one at a time to find what you're looking for.
- Save filtered Excel exports for audits. If you need to prove what your team did during a specific period, export the filtered Tracker data and keep it as a record.
- Use Application Usage to spot training gaps. If a feature is rarely used, your team may not know about it.
- Combine tracker and inspection history for a full picture: tracker shows who's working on what now, history shows trends over time.
- Review weekly. Analytics is most valuable as a regular habit, not a once-a-year audit.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Analytics in the sidebar
Solutions:
- You need the View Analytics permission. Ask your administrator.
- Analytics is hidden in offline mode — switch back to online
Some dashboard tabs are missing
Solutions:
- Each dashboard has its own permission gate. Your role might not include access to specific dashboards.
- Ask your administrator to grant the specific dashboard permissions you need (View Tracker, View Feedback, etc.)
Excel export fails or downloads an empty file
Solutions:
- Check that the dashboard actually has data to export with the current filters
- Try narrowing the date range — very large exports can time out
- Check your browser's download permissions for the nSpec domain
A dashboard is loading slowly or crashing
Solutions:
- Apply more filters to reduce the data set (especially on Application Usage where the cap is 50K records)
- Narrow the date range
- Try refreshing the page
- If the problem persists, see Performance Issues
